What is Service Learning?
- A way of teaching and learning that connects positive and meaningful action in the community with academic learning, personal growth and civic responsibility. Service-Learning helps develop citizenship and good character while providing direct connections to the academic curriculum. Service-Learning experiences allow students to apply their Social and Emotional skills into action.

Steps for Successful Service-Learning:
- Students should investigate a community issue or need, plan/prepare a project to meet that issue or need, initiate the project (action), reflect on their service afterward, and share what they have learned.
What are the benefits of Service-Learning?
- Prepare for a Changing World, Learn the Importance of Collaboration & Teamwork, Develop Critical Thinking Skills and Innovative Ideas, Become Creative Problem Solvers, Develop Global Awareness, Connect with people while developing skills, Character Development.
How many hours are required?
- NO hours are required to graduate high school. However, the chart below explains the levels of awards. Only the Service Learning Diploma Award will be given a cord at Graduation. Other qualifying students may be recognized during their senior year.
