Test Taking Tips: Strategies to Do Our Best

Testing season can bring feelings of stress, anxiety, and pressure.

Lets remember that we can build mindfulness, coping, stress management skills, and more!

Before Testing Session

1. Feelings Check In: Begin with a status check, and allow the time to take a moment to reflect and identify how YOU might be feeling.
Then pause and go through the 4 steps.2. Sustaining Attention aka Brain Skills: Think about what your brain needs to be able to focus and stay on track!
Jump start the day with a few activities to practice sustaining attention!3. Managing Our Stress: Throughout the test, we may feel anxious. Practice these strategies to help manage your stress.4. Visualizing Success/Stay focused: Remind yourself to relax and prepare for today’s test. Think about what you can do to quiet your thoughts and maintain focus during the test. 

After Testing Session

1. Take a Mindful Moment/Quiet Your Brain: Remember to decompress by beingmindful of our emotions, and help your thoughts float by.2. Look for the Good/Be Optimistic: It may be difficult to continue through the day when our minds are focused on that morning’s test.
Take a moment to reflect on things, people, and activities you are grateful for or that bring you joy. 3. Fun Activities: Remember that we are all in this together and have some fun creating a funny story or picture.4. Reframe the Situation/Remain Resilient: It can be difficult for our minds to regroup when things don’t go our way.
You can draw inspiration from your favorite characters and reflect on stories and characters that showed resilience.
